Product Database

Why a product database for sustainability?

A confusing variety of product labels, building certificates and material declarations makes it almost impossible for principals and planners to maintain an overview.
Manufacturers are constantly faced with requests for certificates and declarations. And more recently, more product-related BIM elements and environmental audit data are being requested.

Our mission with Building Material Scout is to give all players involved in construction - banks, investors, principals, project developers, architects, planners, construction companies, and operators - easy access to healthy, intelligent and sustainable materials and building products.
We are convinced that this will make a significant contribution to improving the quality of buildings by providing healthy, environmentally friendly space for people.

What information is stored in the product database?

Building ecology and BIM information on all listed building products:

  • Building certification systems DGNB, LEED, BREEAM

  • Eco labels (natureplus, Cradle to Cradle, …)

  • Environmental Product Declarations (EPD)

  • Recycling

  • Pollutants

  • Ingredients

  • Emissions

  • ...

How can I use the database for projects?

Project-related selection of healthy and sustainable construction products based on project requirements:

  • Search for the right products for building certification systems

  • Create documentation of the installed materials

  • Evaluations with regard to LCA, recycling, etc. (Development from 2018)

How do you verify the data?

Building Material Scout provides a platform for the exchange of information between manufacturer and planers. The responsibility for the accuracy of the information provided on products and services is therefore borne solely by the manufacturer who post this information in BMS.
BMS carries out content checks when BMS receives specific indications of false or misleading information. If necessary, please provide such information via service@building-material-scout.com.

If you can not find a product type or material, we will gladly apply it for you.

Assessment Service

What is the Assessment Service?

Building Material Scout offer a unique assessment service that submits correctly specified requests for quotation to product manufacturers and automatically classifies products according to established sustainability standards (DGNB, LEED and BREEAM).

Can manufacturers certify their products according DGNB, LEED or BREEAM?

No. DGNB, LEED and BREEAM do not certify products. The DGNB, LEED and BREEAM systems are building certification systems and not an ecolabel für products such as the Blue Angel.

Nevertheless, the building certification systems in some criteria have product requirements that go beyond the legal standards. In this case, the manufacturer must prove in the project that his products meet these criteria. This is done by a self-declaration or by certificates (for example VOC, recycled content, origin of materials, FSC, Green Label Plus, etc.). If the manufacutrer can provide this information and evidence, he gains competitive advantage. Building Material Scout, with its own assessment service and declarations, provides an ideal platform to cover several certification systems - currently DGNB, LEED and BREEAM - and to reach customers in a targeted manner.

Which criteria are considered?

We focus on the building product relevant criteria from the DGNB, LEED and BREEAM system, which cause the biggest problems in the certification projects. On request we can also implement further criteria on Building Material Scout.
